President Erdoğan: “New Trade Goal with Italy Set at 40 Billion Dollars”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced a significant step forward in Turkish-Italian relations during the 4th Intergovernmental Summit held in Rome. Speaking after high-level meetings with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Erdoğan stated:

“We have set our new trade volume target with Italy at 40 billion dollars. This is not just a figure; it reflects the strength of our strategic partnership and mutual trust.”

President Erdoğan emphasized that Turkey and Italy aim to deepen their cooperation in defense industry, energy, logistics, and infrastructure sectors. “Italy is one of our most important trade partners in Europe. We seek to diversify and strengthen our economic ties further,” he added.

In addition to trade, the leaders discussed regional security, irregular migration, and the humanitarian situation in Gaza. Erdoğan underlined the importance of constructive roles by European powers like Italy in contributing to peace in the Middle East.

Prime Minister Meloni also stressed Italy’s interest in expanding economic relations with Turkey, highlighting increased investments from Turkish companies and strategic cooperation in energy and green transformation sectors. “We support Turkey’s closer integration with Europe,” she said.

This renewed trade target follows a total trade volume of 27 billion dollars between the two countries in 2023 and reflects a strong political will to elevate economic cooperation in the near future.
